Your Summer
Fleet Checklist
During the summer, school buses are often left unused for extended periods of time. These steps can help prevent component deterioration and keep your fleet performing at its best.
Fuel Storage
Store buses with the fuel tank at least 80% full to help reduce condensation buildup and protect fuel system components during storage.
Monthly Operation
Drive vehicles monthly to exercise brakes, driveline, steering, and suspension components while helping keep seals properly lubricated.
Engine Temperature
Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached. Monitor dash warnings and allow any required regeneration cycle to complete.
Remove Winter Covers
Remove winter front covers or radiator restrictions so airflow is not limited during warm-weather operation.
A/C Performance
Check the bus A/C system for proper cooling, airflow, vent temperature, condenser performance, and blower motor operation.
Cabin Air Filters
Clean or replace cabin air filters. Restricted airflow reduces cooling performance and adds strain to HVAC components.
Coolant System
Inspect coolant levels, hose condition, clamps, belts, and coolant concentration to help prevent overheating.
Coolant Types
Never mix coolant brands or types. Use the correct coolant to protect cooling system performance and engine components.
Radiators & Condensers
Clean radiators, charge air coolers, and A/C condensers to remove dirt, insects, and debris that can restrict airflow.
Batteries & Electrical
Inspect batteries, cables, electrical connections, and lighting systems. Clean corrosion and verify charging system performance.
Lubrication Service
Perform lubrication maintenance at the recommended interval, based on mileage, engine hours, fuel use, or calendar time.
Full Bus Inspection
Clean and inspect interior and exterior surfaces, auxiliary heaters, and key components for leaks, wear, or summer storage concerns.
