Brake Repair Service in Kankakee, IL
Reasons Why You Should Check Your Brakes!
Transit vehicles are exceptionally heavy and carry hundreds of passengers daily, which means they’re on the road more than most automobiles. Therefore, it’s essential that the brakes for each of these rides are working correctly. We at Midwest Transit Equipment have put together an overview to learn when brakes should be changed and how to identify problems with brakes.
When Should Brakes Be Changed?
Brakes are significant components that help reduce speed, prevent collisions, and keep the transit from rolling on hills. Over time, these parts lose their effectiveness. On average, brake pads last up to 70,000 miles on automobiles like transit vans and buses. However, it depends on the quality of the components. For example, low-quality parts could last as low as 30,000 miles. Another factor that determines the life of brake pads is the frequency in which the vehicle is driven. For instance, a transit automobile that travels more than average may have a shorter brake lifespan. As a rule of thumb, refer to the Owner’s Manual to see what the manufacturer says about getting the brakes changed. That way, you can decrease the chances of a collision on roads like East Maple Street.
Signs That Brake Pads Are Failing
Is it getting harder to stop the transit vehicle? If the answer is yes, it may be time to change the brakes. Or maybe the components are squealing as you stop a transit set of wheels. That usually happens when there’s uneven pressure on the drum brake. If the transit automobile is using rotors, sometimes called disks, the brake pad could be worn down. Does the steering wheel or brake pedal pulsate or vibrate? If so, that’s a symptom that our Service Department should check out for you. Additionally, any grinding sounds you hear as brakes are applied can be another sign that the components have gone bad. It’s recommended that you check the brakes every 12 months. However, we suggest that you check these parts every six months.
Other Tasks We Perform
In addition to brake inspection and installation, our technicians can provide oil changes, battery tests, tire rotations, and other routine tasks. Whether you require a quick fix or severe repair, our expert mechanics can do the job. Any transit vehicle with a warranty can receive specific services for free. But if the warranty expires, don’t worry—we have several Service Specials to help you save money. Does your ride need a particular component?
