Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

Q - When it comes to choosing a bus, which is better: gas or diesel?

A - This varies by situation. Diesel engines are more fuel-efficient and have a longer life. They are typically used in fleet operations. Gasoline engines are usually more appropriate for users that neither have large fleets nor is transportation their primary business purpose. Gasoline engines are less expensive, quieter and easier to locate the correct fuel with the driver least likely to mistakenly fill with the wrong fuel.

Q - How long does delivery take once a vehicle has been ordered?

A - Vehicle delivery time varies. If the vehicle is in stock, it can be delivered within days of a decision to purchase. If ordered, a low floor minivan may take as little as 8 weeks to deliver. Typical delivery for a cut-away is 90 - 100 days after receipt to order. Some of our manufacturers are down to 6 - 8 weeks at the moment. Larger vehicles, such as the Supreme low floor President, can take 180 - 210 days while large 10 - 12 transit buses can take 180 - 300 days. Adding options such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Hybrid drive also increase the delivery time.

Q - At what point is a CDL (Commercial Driver's License) needed to operate a bus?

A -
There are two criteria for this. First, any bus designed to transport 16 or more passengers plus the driver will require a CDL. Second, any unit with a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of 16,000 lbs. or more will require a CDL.

Q - Where can I get my vehicle serviced?

A - All chassis-related warranty repairs or routine maintenance may be handled by an authorized chassis dealer in your area (i.e. Ford, Chevy, International). For body related issues, many chassis dealers can help with this as well. Or if needed, you may consult an independent local repair facility of your choice. Please note: All warranty repairs (with the exception of chassis warranty issues) are handled through our warranty department and require prior authorization. We will work with you and the repair facility to make sure repairs are completed properly and in a timely manner.

Midwest Transit Equipment is an authorized repair center. We service all makes and models of buses. We maintain a fully equipped body shop as well as a full-size paint booth and repair station. For local servicing, warranty repairs must be pre-approved through Midwest Transit Equipment. View the warranty page for more information.
